UKCP Psychotherapist · Therapeutic Coach
I’m Sabbir Ahmed, a UKCP-registered psychotherapist. This page is the front door to the conditions I work with most. Each one links to a fuller page on how I approach it, and the first step is always the same: a free 20-minute initial consultation, with nothing to prepare.
Planned support, not crisis care
Years of experience
Most of the people who come to my consulting room have tried therapy before. A few sessions of generic CBT through the NHS, or a counsellor who was kind but didn’t quite get the specifics: the ADHD that makes a routine feel impossible, the rejection sensitivity that turns small slights into days of rumination, the BPD pattern where intimacy and panic arrive together, or the OCD ritual that doesn’t look like one until you notice you’ve been doing it for years.
The conditions below are the ones I see most often, each treated with the modality that has the strongest evidence base, not simply the one I trained in. None of this is a programme. Every page is a starting point for a course of work shaped around you.
Neuroaffirming therapy for executive function, rejection sensitivity and emotional regulation. CBT and DBT skills, with coaching available alongside
Strengths-based therapy for autistic adults and AuDHD profiles, including late-diagnosed adults. No masking required.
DBT-led therapy for emotional intensity, abandonment fears and the relational patterns that follow them. The single most evidence-supported approach for BPD.
DBT-informed work on mood stability and distress tolerance, alongside any psychiatric care you already have in place.
Therapy for substance and behavioural addictions, including alcohol, drugs and gambling. Distress-tolerance skills alongside work on what the addiction has been managing for you.
CBT, behavioural activation and psychodynamic therapy for persistent low mood, loss of pleasure and chronic self-criticism. NICE-recommended treatment, tailored to you.
Not sure which fits?
CBT and DBT-informed therapy for persistent worry, panic, social or health anxiety, and the thought patterns underneath. Evidence-based treatment, fitted to you.
CBT and DBT-informed therapy for OCD, including less-visible forms such as Pure-O, relationship OCD and contamination checking, in line with NICE guidelines.
For chronic self-criticism, perfectionism, imposter feelings and the harsh inner critic that runs commentary on every decision. Compassion-focused and CBT-based.
Trauma-focused CBT and psychodynamic work for PTSD, complex PTSD and unprocessed trauma. Paced carefully: no exposure before stabilisation.
For parenting overwhelm, co-parenting conflict, the rupture-and-repair cycle, and the way your own childhood shapes how you parent now. Adolescent specialism.
Where to start? Let's talk
We talk about what’s going on, what you’ve tried before, and whether I’m the right fit. No obligation, nothing to prepare, and if someone else would suit you better I’ll say so.
In the first one or two sessions we build a picture of what’s happening for you: your history, current patterns, and the goals that would make the work feel worthwhile. I share my early formulation, and we agree the shape of the work together.
Weekly 50-minute sessions at Harley Street, Angel or online, with progress reviews every 6 to 8 sessions. Most clients see meaningful change within 12 to 20 sessions, though deeper work can take longer. You set the pace; I bring the structure.
With Sabbir’s continued support and guidance, I am better at dealing with negative thoughts and emotions, have improved the quality of the most important relationships in my life.

NHS-trained · King's College London
I’m a UKCP-registered psychotherapist (Reg. No. 2011164676) with over 20 years across the NHS, private practice and community services. I trained at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust and studied CBT at King’s College London, and I’m also an EMCC-accredited coach.
I’m the father of an autistic son, so some of what you’ll read on these pages I know from the inside, not just the consulting room. I don’t fit you to a programme; I look at what’s actually happening for you and build the work around that, drawing on CBT, DBT, psychodynamic and compassion-focused approaches in whatever combination fits you best.
Questions people ask before getting in touch
You don’t need a formal diagnosis, or the right label, to start. Most people arrive with a sense that something isn’t working: anxiety that feels disproportionate, a relational pattern that keeps repeating, or a low mood that won’t lift. Our first conversation is partly about naming what’s happening, and if what you need sits outside my specialism I’ll say so and point you to a colleague who fits better.
No. I’m a psychotherapist, not a diagnostic service. I work with you whether you have a formal diagnosis, are waiting for one, or have decided not to pursue one. If an assessment would genuinely help, I’ll say so and point you towards the right NHS or private route.
Yes. Many of my clients also have a GP, psychiatrist or NHS team involved in their care, particularly for bipolar, BPD and ADHD. With your consent I’m happy to coordinate, so the therapy supports what you already have in place rather than duplicating it.
Most clients see meaningful change within 12 to 20 sessions. Anxiety, low mood and skill-building work often sit at that end; trauma work, BPD and longer-standing patterns typically run 6 to 18 months. I review progress every 6 to 8 sessions, so the work keeps a clear shape rather than drifting open-ended, and the depth we work to is always your call.
Sometimes, yes. If you’re working on a clinical issue such as anxiety, depression or BPD and also want focused, practical work on something behavioural, like productivity, confidence or a life transition, some clients do both with me in separate session formats. We discuss whether that’s the right approach on the free 20-minute initial consultation.
Therapy works with the emotional side: regulation, rejection sensitivity, and the patterns that build up around ADHD over the years. Coaching is practical and forward-facing: routines, executive function, goals. Some people benefit from one, some from both at different points. There’s more on the ADHD coaching page.
Therapy starts from £195 a session and coaching from £350, and the first step is always a free 20-minute initial consultation. Full details, including how invoicing works if an insurer or employer reimburses you, are on the therapy fees and coaching fees pages.
No. I work privately rather than through insurance panels. Clients pay for their sessions directly and receive an invoice for each one.
I keep my caseload deliberately small. The quickest way to find out about current availability is to send an enquiry; I reply personally within one working day.
My practice is planned support, not an emergency service. If you’re in crisis, call 999, NHS 111, or the Samaritans free, 24/7, on 116 123. Once you’re safe and stable, I’m available for medium- and longer-term therapeutic work.
